Growing up just four hours from one of the USA’s founding cities, it may come as a surprise that it took me 22 years to finally make it to Philadelphia. Since my brother moved to the city of brotherly love two years ago, I have had this place on my list for a long time.
A few fun facts
Philadelphia comes in fifth place for highest population in the US.
The Founding Fathers met here for the signing of the Declaration and the US Constitution.
For a short time, Philly was the nation’s capital during the Revolutionary War as well as when the construction of the District of Columbia took place.
Not only does this beautiful city hold incredible historical significance, but contemporary cultural significance as well. It serves at the setting for well known movies like National Treasure and Rocky as well as the hilarious TV series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
I found this city to be blooming with life and excitement. Pop-up beer gardens and outdoor events could be found every few blocks. Brownstone pubs, colorful shutters, kind people, and great food surrounded me. Did I mention everyone there loves Benjamin Franklin? Philly is the place to be. See for yourself.
