The byzantine world, a world full of charm, was the inspiration for many fashion collections. One of the best known is probably the one from Dolce & Gabbana (below).
The Byzantine Empire was also the theme we had for this year’s mini-collection at the School of Art. I must admit that at first I didn’t like it but reading about it, I discovered its charm.
The first step in the making of this project was sketching. From tens of sketches were chosen only five which we had to turn into real outfits.
The next step was choosing the fabrics and creating the final outfits.
I used a soft black fabric for the trousers and a tougher knit in three colors (black, brown and cream) for the rest of the pieces. I replaced the embroideries and the beaded decorations (which were very common in the byzantine empire) with leather.
