What does the color of 2019 mean?

What is the meaning of the color of 2019?

For 19 years Pantone has chosen the color of the year, a color that is representative for the period. Although this is largely for economic and marketing purposes, each color has come with a story and well-thought meaning.

While last year’s choice, the ultra-violet, represented inventiveness, imagination and creativity, the color of 2019 brings us into a totally different area, with some equally deep significance.

We live in a world dominated by technology, a world in which we run around with or without a particular purpose. We want to do things but we don’t have enough time, we don’t have enough money, we don’t have enough strength… when maybe we just do not have enough motivation. We lose ourselves in the everyday routine and forget to enjoy the things that really matter.

Living coral, the color chosen by the Pantone institute in 2019, aims to get us out of this state. This color represents the optimism and the energy of a child, a feeling of happiness that most of us have forgotten. Joy. Warmth. Life. Connection.

As expected, the warm and bold color has repeatedly made an appearance on the runways at shows such as Michael Kors, Etro or Fendi.

Rather bold, this color can be a bit difficult to integrate into an outfit in everyday life, especially because it is not a color that suits anyone.

How do we integrate this color into our wardrobe? Here are some suggestions:

A first option would be to choose a simple, classic outfit, with a bright touch. You can choose either a pair of coral shoes, a shirt or a jacket, along with some neutrals. On the other hand, for those who are brave enough to wear bold colors, the best option is a coral dress, paired with simple, monochrome accessories. However, if you don’t feel like going for such an outfit, choosing the makeup in coral shades can be an equally suitable option.
